I believe in being kind whether you have a personal relationship with someone or not. Also, the bit about appreciation for every occupation supports the thinking that because someone makes their work look easy doesn't necessarily mean it is easy.
I often find myself wondering too. What goes on in the lives of others? How are we all connected? And how important every occupation is. Imagine what would happen if all the roadside pepper sellers suddenly decide not to sell again. Or the cobblers move on and shun the profession.
We are all pieces on a board and each piece is as important as the next.
